Chapter 39 Natalie's laughter was a little awkward as she nudged her grandpa's arm, a playful grin on her face. "Grandpa, you do lovethe most, don't you?" she teased.

"You little smooth talker." Lambert just grunted, looking over his shoulder for Valerie.

"Why's Valerie still in bed? She doesn't even have a boyfriend," he grumbled, shaking his head. Natalie and Valerie weren't rushing to settle down, but Lambert was getting anxious about their future choices. "Grandpa, why is that?" Natalie asked, genuinely puzzled. "Do women with boyfriends sleep in?" Lambert's face reddened as he thought, 'Is she being innocent or just feigning ignorance?' "Alright, alright, you younger generations work too hard. Get your rest if you need it," he grumbled, walking to breakfast with a weighted step. He knew he couldn't interfere in their lives.

Natalie dialed Valerie, who was still caught in the clutches of sleep from staying up late reading. Valerie's voice was groggy and irritable when she picked up. "Hello? Who is this? You know, disturbing someone's beauty rest will make your hair turn gray prematurely." Natalie winced at Valerie's jest. "Valerie, rise and shine. Breakfast is getting cold," she teased, her voice tinged with amusement. She was well aware that Valerie had been up late, engrossed in a book.

Valerie's apology cthrough a yawn. "Natalie, your study is so inviting, and the bed is heavenly. I can't seem to get out of it. Please convey my apologies to Grandpa Lambert.

"Letjust drift a bit longer. If I leave this bed, I'll miss out on its amazing comfort. I feel bad about missing breakfast with him." Natalie hung up, her expression telling the whole story. Lambert, noticing her expression, deduced that Valerie had been engrossed in a book and stayed up late into the night.

He gazed at the girls he'd seen grow up, each remarkable in her own way, and felt a swell of pride. He believed their love for reading was beneficial; it helped keep them grounded and find solutions when times were tough. After sitting down, Natalie got a text from Valerie. [Natalie, you're gonna have a lucky night, go for it!] Natalie's face brightened as she read the message. She quickly tapped out a response. [Thanks, Valerie! Love you.] After breakfast, Grandpa headed to the square for fun, while Natalie went to the garden with a book. She was determined to live a brilliant life, for herself. Once she made up her mind, she rarely looked back.

Letting go of Easton made her happier than ever. Now her life was her own, free from making breakfast at dawn, staying up waiting for him, and dealing with his household chaos.

Natalie started by loving herself. To avoid past errors, she immersed herself in the company's operations, studying intently during her lunchtin the garden. By the afternoon, she had a good understanding of her domain. Afterward, Luna arrived to take her to a beauty salon in preparation for the banquet with Maurice at the Hayes Hotel, a Garcia family property.

At the hotel's entrance, Natalie hesitated, wondering if she might run into Easton.
