Chapter 1387

Quincy was wide awake, going over the investigation report he had finally gotten his hands on, page by page

under his desk lamp. By the the finished, he was at a loss for words.

The surgery had been a lie, but the illness was real. His mother was indeed in the early stages of lung cancer,

and with her weak heart, treating both conditions would be incredibly difficult. Yet, even now, rather than

focusing on her health, she was fixated on pushing him to leave Lydia.

He decided he would have to talk to her about it in the morning. Just as he was about to go to bed, he picked up

his phone to check the tand saw a message from Eugene that felt like a slap in the face. The smug text

announced Eugene's engagement to Lydia, complete with screenshots of congratulatory comments flooding

social media.

Quincy felt as though every drop of blood had stopped cold in his veins.

Eugene and Lydia, getting married?

It was all over the trending news, so it had to be true. But was this Lydia's choice, or her parents’ doing? It was

probably hers. Her parents respected her decisions so they wouldn't force her into marriage. Only his family

would stoop to that. Quincy couldn't bear the thought of disrupting Lydia's life. If she was moving on, he would

have to let her go, even if it tore him apart.

Before going to bed, he typed out an email to Lydia. At the end, he wrote, "I'll never forget that night at the bar,

you holding onto me, calling my name. Lydia, if you really hate me, just delete this email. | won't reach out

again. But if you ever need me, I'll be here." Quincy knew Lydia rarely checked her email. By the tshe found

it, it might be too late or maybe, she would never read it at all.

The next morning, Lydia went downstairs to try a local breakfast specialty. As she took a bite, she overheard a

conversation at the next table.

"Did you hear about the Ford and Fay families? They're joining through marriage!" one woman said.

"No way! | don't follow that stuff," her friend replied. "I don't know much about them."

"They're not celebrities, they're wealthy heirs don't usually care, but it's all over the gossip sites. He

He is really handsome! Do you think should apply for a job at his company? Maybe we'd end up in a little office

romance," she laughed.

Lydia stopped paying attention, but a question lingered in her mind. What did they mean by the Fays and Fords

joining through marriage? Her parents only had one child. So, was she the one they were talking about?

This couldn't be real. Her parents wouldn't do something so outrageous. But just to be sure, she decided to reach

out,

Lydia didn't call but she sent a quick text, "Mom, Dad, you didn't arrange sengagement for me, did you?"

Mrs. Fay replied right away, "Of course not! We were about to ask you the sthing. It's trending on social

media, saying you and Eugene are the perfect match. Can you call us?"

Setting her breakfast aside, Lydia

went back up to her room and called

her parents directly. She had just heard the news, and apparently, so had they. Somehow, the so-called "happy

news" had reached everyone except those directly involved.
