Chapter 1314

Lydia didn't say a word, merely lowering her head in silence. She had always loved children. When she first found

out she was pregnant, she had been so excited.

But now, the child was gone, her beloved husband was gone, and the happiness she once felt seemed like an

illusion. Just one touch and it shattered, leaving nothing but broken pieces.

"I'm sorry, Lydia. | shouldn't have brought that up. Sometimes | just don't think. | can't believe I said something

so thoughtless..." Eugene's voice grew increasingly panicked, and before Lydia could react, he raised his hand to

slap himself. As he prepared for a second slap, Lydia quickly grabbed his hand, shaking her head. "Don't do that.

I'm not blaming you. It's not your fault."

After all, it wasn't Eugene who had caused her to lose the baby. And he hadn't said anything that terrible. She

knew she couldn't expect everyone to avoid mentioning children around her just because of what she had gone

through.

"But | worry you're bottling it all up. Lydia, if you need to let it out, you can take it out on me. I'm here for that."

Eugene looked like he wanted to say more, but Lydia's phone screen lit up.

She had intended to check the time, but saw it flooded with messages. The message were all from Quincy. She

didn't even want to read them. She simply tapped 'Delete All.

Out of the corner of his eye, Eugene had been watching her phone. Though he couldn't see the messages, it was

obvious to him who had sent them.

Quincy.

Things had changed. Since the miscarriage, Quincy had lost any right to be compared to him.

Earlier, he had purposely touched on sensitive topies, and Lydia's reaction made it clear that she was still

haunted by the loss of the child.

Quincy's mother opposing them, Eugene felt certain they would never get back together.

"Let's get going," Eugene said, pressing down on the gas. "We can spend the day out and take our minds off

things."

Meanwhile, Quincy anxiously glanced at his phone, hoping for a reply. But it was like tossing stones into the

ocean, nothing cback.

"Quit checking your phone, already.

with your mom? She's been so ill, stuck in the hospital, and all you can think about is that phone?" His cousin,

Mabel, snatched the phone right out of his hands.

It was pretty obvious to everyone in the hospital room who could have him so distracted.

Quincy frowned. "Mabel, knock it off. Giveback my phone."

"No way," she replied, hiding the phone behind her back. "You just want to reach out to that two-timer, don't

you? My awesbig cousin, and she's got you looking like this? Why can't you see the light already?"

Glaring at Quincy, Mabel's

Everyone online would be laughing at you, and they'd probably even start calling you a doormat.

She muttered the last part under her breath, but the hospital room was quiet enough that Quincy could still

catch it. His expression instantly darkened at her words.
