Chapter 1403
At the police station, Lydia saw Eugene once more. When he caught sight of her standing with Quincy, his eyes
turned red with rage, and he tried to charge at them, only to be stopped by the officers.
"Lydia, how could you betray me?" he shouted furiously. "You two are already divorced. Are you really planning to
get back together? Why would you hurtlike this?"
To anyone unaware of the situation, he might have sounded heartbreakingly sincere, as if Lydia had wronged
him.
"Let's be clear," Lydia replied coldly, "we were just friends, never anything more. And for the record, Quincy and |
haven't finalized our divorce. Even if we did divorce and chose to remarry, that's none of your business. My life
choices are my own." Just because Eugene had feelings for her didn't mean she was obligated to reciprocate.

"Lydia, | won't allow you two to be together," he said, seething. "He's not right for you at all. Or have you
forgotten about the child? That was your own flesh and blood." Eugene threw out the memory of her lost child,
hoping it would hurt her, to keep her away from Quincy. Lydia's hand moved to her stomach. "Just so you know,
I'm pregnant again. This child is Quincy's. The one we lost has returned."
Quincy's eyes widened in shock. He looked at her stomach in disbelief. There was a child there? Their child?
Eugene looked equally stunned, his eyes nearly drilling holes into her stomach. It had to have been that night. If
Quincy hadn't "gotten in the way," that baby would have been his!
He regretted not acting sooner. He should have hurt her and forced her to lose this child. Without a baby, she
and Quincy would never stay together.
Though he didn't voice these thoughts, Lydia could see them in his eyes. "Forget it, Eugene," she said.
"Everything you did was recorded, and there's plenty of evidence against you. You're looking at serious jail time."
"There weren't any cameras in that alley!" Eugene's first instinct was to call her bluff.
Just then, an elderly woman walked over and spat on the ground near him. "There weren't any cameras, but |
know how to use my phone. | filmed everything. Only a shameless man would prey on a woman like that!"
Eugene had no way to wriggle out now. The incident had not only reached Lydia's parents but also his own
family.
Eugene's parents visited the Fay family in person to apologize, offering financial compensation. But the Fays

of his daughter. "He'll serve every day the court assigns. Trying to buyoff won't work. If | catch you pulling
any strings, I'll report it immediately."
Without hesitation, Eugene's parents decided to cut ties with him. Although he was their only son, families like
theirs often had contingencies in place.
Years ago, they had preserved
fertilized embryos, just in case anything happened to their only child. Now that Eugene had shown his true
colors, they were prepared to let him go. If their "first choice" didn't work out, they would simply turn to a
"backup."
"He'll serve his time," Eugene's father histi assured them. "Afterward, we'll send him overseas, and he'll never
bother your daughter again. All we ask is
that you keep this quiet, for the sake of both our families' reputations."
